PCC information

Charities have a range of Governing Documents. Charitable Trusts are governed by Trust Deeds; Charitable Companies will have a Memorandum and Articles; whilst Charitable Associations usually have a Constitution. Whilst Parochial Church Councils (PCCs) are charities, they are governed by two pieces of Church of England legislation, called Measures. These are:

The Parochial Church Councils (Powers) Measure 1956 as amended. This defines the principal function, or purpose, of the PCC as "promoting in the parish the whole mission of the Church". You can find the full text of the PCC Powers Measure in its currently amended form on the Statute Law Database by following this link:  http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukcm/Eliz2/4-5/3/contents

and

The Church Representation Rules (contained in Schedule 3 to the Synodical Government Measure 1969 as amended). The Rules were revised in 2011 and can be purchased for £7.99 from Church House Publishing.

PCC Accountability: The Charities Act 2011 and the PCC

Now in its fourth edition, this updated edition (published February 2013) offers a major revision to previous versions and is fully updated with regard to the Charities Act 2011 and the SORP 2008 Regulations
